Cationic PAM Supplier Sample and COA Evaluation Checklist

Evaluate a cationic PAM supplier through coded samples, application trials, test-method alignment, COA review, packaging and lot-control evidence.

A supplier comparison should connect coded samples, controlled dewatering trials, agreed test methods and commercial delivery. A COA cannot prove that a polymer will work on the sludge, while one successful beaker cannot control future lots.

Issue the same application brief

Provide every candidate supplier with the same sludge description, equipment, present treatment, target and quantity. Avoid leading the trial with a preferred product label. Ask for a focused sample range and the reason each grade was selected.

Code samples before testing

Use neutral codes where practical and record lot information separately. Prepare every product under its documented method while keeping comparison conditions consistent. For powder and emulsion comparisons, normalize active polymer and document preparation differences.

Use a fixed test record

Record feed condition, solution concentration, age, mixing, active dose, floc response, drainage, filtrate or centrate, cake and equipment-specific observations. Include underdose and overdose points. Repeat promising products to check reproducibility.

Confirm finalists on the machine

Bench work narrows the range but does not reproduce belt pressure, centrifuge shear or screw compression. Run controlled plant steps at steady state. Measure capture, cake solids, throughput, return-liquor quality, cleaning and dose.

Align COA test methods

Ask what concentration, water, temperature and instrument are used for viscosity and dissolution-related values. Review moisture, particle size, ionic indicator and agreed residual parameters in context. Values generated by different methods should not be treated as directly comparable.

Review documentation and traceability

Confirm TDS, SDS, COA, lot identification, manufacturing and release controls. Do not assume certifications or capacities that are not documented. Define retained-sample and complaint procedures appropriate to the order.

Evaluate packaging and logistics

Specify net weight, liner, palletization, marks, documents, destination and Incoterm. Check storage constraints and expected usage rate. Freight and damage risk belong in the delivered-cost comparison.

Approve a product code and operating window

The purchase record should identify the validated grade, product form, dose range, preparation method and acceptance endpoints. Keep a reference sample where practical. Review the quality and supply controls before placing a production order.

Separate technical and commercial scoring

Create a technical gate before comparing quoted price. Candidates that fail capture, cake, preparation or operating-stability requirements should not win because of a lower unit price. After the gate, calculate delivered treatment cost using active dose, freight, cake handling and operational effects. Keep the scoring method visible to the evaluation team.

Ask for change-control clarity

Confirm how the supplier identifies product grade and lot, and how material changes are communicated. The approved application result belongs to a defined product. A broad sales name without traceability makes future diagnosis difficult. Agree on documentation needed when manufacturing or specification changes affect the supplied grade.

Plan a receiving check

Define practical incoming checks before the first shipment arrives. These may include packaging condition, identity, lot documents, appearance, moisture or screen check, solution preparation and a retained application comparison. Use methods the plant can repeat. Do not create a test that has no agreed interpretation or reference.

Evaluate response quality

A useful supplier asks for sludge, machine and dose data, explains why samples were chosen and helps interpret a controlled trial without promising universal performance. Review the accuracy and timeliness of technical, document and logistics responses. Commercial reliability is part of treatment risk even when the polymer performs well.

Approve with a review date

Record the grade, supplier, lot, dose window, preparation method, performance baseline, price basis, packaging and destination. Set conditions that trigger review: feed-process change, machine replacement, unexplained lot shift, persistent cost increase or major supply change. Periodic evidence-based review is more useful than switching products after one poor shift.

Use retained samples during investigation

When performance changes, compare the current lot with a properly stored retained reference under the same preparation and sludge condition. A difference supports further lot investigation; no difference directs attention toward feed, preparation or equipment. Retained samples have value only when identification, storage and test methods are controlled, so include those details in the receiving procedure.

Close the evaluation with written reasons for acceptance and rejection. Include technical performance, operating window, preparation, documentation, packaging, delivered cost and response capability. This protects the decision from later being reduced to one COA number or one quoted price and provides a transparent basis for future supplier review.
